  • Misdelivered package

So I ordered some Molicares via Northshore, shipped by Amazon. Curiously though the driver couldn't find my address, so made the executive decision to deliver it to an address he *could* find, which happened to be a gated apartment complex across the street from me (so no chance of me going and knocking on the recipient's door).

I called the courier and they have visted this place a few times to no avail. Though I'm frustrated at the delayed delivery (my money has since been refunded), it also intrigues me that someone decided to keep the package. It seems doubtful to me that they know what such a product would sell for, given the niche market. So someone saw what it was, and decided to keep it. A possible DL right across the street from me!

Has anyone else had this troublesome issue with fedex? If I had the choice I would have required a signature, but that is decided by the seller and I have no control over that. When I called them up and they dispatched the same guy who made the faulty delivery he called me to inform me that my address doesn't exist (despite fedex,UPS having made multiple deliveries with no issue to my place before, and the U.S. postal service arriving daily to deliver mail). From my experience by this I'm inclined not to give any business to FedEx, but it might just have been a freak incident with a new or bad driver.

Last year I brought a £3000 engagement ring online (not as stupid as it sounds, it was from a very well known retailer and much better quality than £3k would have got me in a shop), and they used FedEx to deliver.

In big letters across the front of the box it said "For Addressee Only" because, naturally, you don't want your office receptionist or security guard signing on your behalf and then mis-placing the package, unaware of it's value.

So on the day it was due, I was waiting patiently with my FedEx tracker on screen to see where it was getting too when suddenly it came up "Delivered". Cue panic - it hasn't been delivered to me. WTF?

Sure enough, it had been given to the security guard at the entrance to my office block. Driver had just asked for a signature, hadn't even checked the name. Luckily the security guy is a) a decent bloke who wouldn't nick it and b) he didn't lose it. So all ended well.

But not through any great service by FedEx.

That's too bad. I wonder if this behavior is specific to FedEx. I have always had good experience with UPS when a signature was required, but I imagine as a driver you are on a strict time schedule and it might become routine not to check every little detail.

Still wondering about that person across the street! Maybe I'll try and stop by to see who it is. In all likelihood probably they picked the package up, brought it inside intending to inform FedEx to the wrong delivery, but works your standard 9-5 hours preventing FedEx from contacting them when they traditionally operate.

Still, having a DL so close is a bit tantalizing. Kind of want to know who it is, if that's really the case.

Occam's Razor. I suspect it's much more likely that either they donated them (Goodwill, Freecycle, etc), didn't even look and simply trashed them or just otherwise offloaded the diapers.

I managed to get a refund and paid a few extra dollars for expedited shipping. Curiously enough the package arrived in my state early in the morning only to have the tracking inform me that it was scanned in about 1,000 miles away about 8 hours after arriving in my state.

FedEx again. Wish I had more control over couriers when ordering via Amazon.
