Full body scanners and diapers

I know this questions has been asked and answered to some degree. I wanted to get any feedback from anyone whom has flown, AND had to go through one of the full body scanners (millimeter wave or back scatter) in a diaper.

I'm going on a trip in a week and am thinking about doing this, but I know there was a lot of contraversy about this when the scanners came out. What I am interested in knowing is, were you stopped and searched because of a "forein object" that showed up on the scan? If so, how was the search conducted? Was it worth the hassle?

What I'm not interested in is anyone's opinion on airport security practices or terrorism. I'm also not interested in conjecture from those whom have not actually been through a scanner in a diaper but think they are authorities on the subject for some reason. Just actual experience please.

They have been using these for some months now depending on what part of the world you are in and I just thought some one must have had this experience by now.

There have been a large number of people who have gone through the body scanners while diapered. The technicians know how to recognize a diaper, know what an incontinence undergarment is, and generally ignore it.

Have you been through a a scanner in a diaper? Everyone says nothing to worry about, but I don't know anyone whom has actually done it. Obviously the TSA folks have seen diapers on the scanners but in light of events like the underwear bomber (who sewed a packet of explosive liquid into his underwear for those who didn't hear) I was looking for a person with a real experiance. Again I'm sure the TSA folks know what to look for, but what is the follow up? Do they ask questions, did it lead to any other delay, etc.

if they ask questions just tell them you need one. Who are they to say you don't. If they do not like the diaper you have one you can always change in to one they have inspected and leave the other one behind. I was stopped for a routine check ones and had a pat down and they felt the diaper. They asked what it was and I said it was a diaper because I leak some times and on a plane I cant always get to the toilet to change a pad. Nothing more was said.

I guess what I am trying to say is that if you try to hide something they will figure out your lying and ask more questions. why raise suspicions. If they ask tell them its a diaper and if they ask you to change show them a clean one and change for them.

Experienced Diapered Flyer

You asked for comments from a seasoned traveler...I fly 150,000 miles in the US per year and I typically wear a diaper with a white cotton brief over it and plastic pants over that. I have been through the scanners and been patted down wearing both wet and dry diapers (never pooped in though). As for the scanner, I have never been asked about my choice in underwear ever. They have been taught to recognize it clearly and respect it. If you go trough the scanner YOU MUST HAVE EMPTY POCKETS. Absolutely nothing in the pockets if you don't want a pat down or questions. The scanner can pick out a good fuzz ball in your pocket (I have watched it happen). If you keep something in the pocket, they will have you empty it out and then do a pat down on the area and a diaper is in the same area as most pockets so the pat down will reveal to the inspector that you are wearing a diaper. You will lilkely then have to say something. This happened once when I was learning how sensitive the scanners are. If you like to keep your diaper wearing to yourself I recommend that you wear a shirt that tucks in well into your pants...when being scanned, you hold your hands above your head, so a loose T-shirt WILL ride up and show the top of your pants and all my diapers and layers tend to be higher or around my pants waistband. So unless you want to show the inspectors and everyone in line behind you the top of your diaper, a well tucked in shirt is a good idea. Again, not something I thought about until I was there being scanned hoping like hell my fellow co-workers in the line somewhere were not watching me with my diaper top on display.

As to the pat down option...unless you are wearing really thick layers, I have gone through without addressing it and every once in a while had to address that I was wearing a diaper. If you get wanded and you are wearing jeans with rivets I have had them then want to pat down more thoroughly the waistband area. They then clearly see a few of my layered waistbands...no hiding there...so just stating you wear protection has been all I have ever had to say.

All told, it is really nothing to be concerned about especially if you are traveling solo with no concerns about folks who know you finding out about your diaper wearing state. If you are trying to conceal your diaper and you are travelling in a party, and you keep any changes in your hand bag, do keep the diapers in a small sack that covers them up...if for some reason they want to open your hand bag up and inspect it (say a small liquid bottle you did not pull out), then at least every roving eye is not looking at your diapers in your open bag if you keep them in a bag to mask them a bit. Have a safe flight and trip!

Nashville I was wearing a cloth diaper and I was double pinned. Your could see it on the scanner, nothing was said. They also search my carryone which had disposables. No big deal.

I have a related question Do male airport workers only scan male passengers and female workers scan female passengers or is there a mix?That is,are there female workers who could scan a male passenger and discover diapers and vise versa?

Personally, I have not. However there are several posts on several other popular ABDL boards where persons who are regular flyers have.

I swear we ABDLs stress ourselves out worrying about what might happen should someone notice. We forget that there are MILLIONS of incontinent people in the world that wear protection for legitimate (non-fun) reasons. These people go about their daily lives and nobody bats an eye. What do you think makes you so different?

TSA Policy

In the US, the TSA directs that any pat-down must be conducted by the same sex. If you are a guy...and the male TSA officers are busy, they will make you wait until there is a male to do the pat-down. I have never seen a deviation in all my US travels. That said, a female can search a male's bag and vice-versa. P_P

I haven't flown since '97 at which time I was wearing a cloth diaper and plastic pants. I was also wearing extra log womens bib-alls which had Winny the pooh on the front. At that time nothing set off any alarms but they did check in my bag every time I boarded a different plane.

Would I be mistaken to think that the diaper pins and all the snaps and catches would show up? I had modified the Bib-alls with a snaps down the inside of both legs for easier changing also. I wouldn't think that is something they see very often?

I probably should have mentioned that I have been through the scanners before ... just not in a diaper. I am aware of how sensative they are and thus the concern. Thank you for the first hand account.

A lot has changed since '97. I used to fly openly with multiple knives on my person. I would take them out of my pockets, place them on the tray, walk through the metal detector ... then just reclaim them and be on my merry. If you fly again at any point ... expect a different experience.

Boyscout. I carry 2 different clasp knives and a multitool almost all the time. I also cary at least one lighter and sometimes a box a matches ... and I don't smoke. Always gotta be prepaired.

The point was that there really wasen't concern with anything but guns and bombs before 9/11.
