It clearly isn't a popular attitude as if it was, noone would be reading or watching all the fakers - rather like spam emails, enough people are fooled that they make it worthwhile for the spammers. Similarly, clearly lots of people think like you do and read the tripe on EP and take it at face value.

Indeed, there is your allegory - you talk about people being paranoid and cynical, I would simply suggest you look at what is actually written, and how, and who by, and it becomes clear that any genuine stuff on a site like EP is drowned out by the fakers torrents. It's not rocket science, it's simply human nature and there is nothing cynical about an awareness that with the anonymity and the treasure trove that is the net, the negative aspects of humans will come to the fore. Just look around and see the huge amounts of hate speech, of online abuse, of fascist politics that exists online.

This isn't about going to extremes, it is about being rational and analytical and not letting your cock dictate what your mind thinks. I know, radical thought for a message board like this...!
