  • Mod's Please Read! Urgent..

Moderators, we appear to have been hit by a serious amount of spam messages..

You might want to think about taking the board offline for a while to give you chance to sort the issues out....

    Good luck!

    How about no?!

Before the COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY signup implementation, this board used to be alive.

It is now just about dead.

The internet is full of spam - deal with it!

Get rid of the logging in rubbish - IT IS PUTTING A LOT OF PEOPLE OFF!

Just a thought...(no doubt i'll be deleted for this ~ one less person to post on here)...

Unnecessary???? If there was no signup, there would not be just some spam - there would be several thousand spam posts per minute!!

If logging in puts some people off, then that's just too bad. Without it there would be millions of spam posts within a day!

I think you should take this as a sign... you need more moderators. No offense, but taking 12 hours to respond to a spam attack like this is just inexcusable.

I think people should have more appreciation for the things in life that come for free

I think DeltaFoxtrot is trying to hint that there are quite a few dedicated regulars on here which would take up the job of moderation, but for some reason, everytime this is suggested, it is ignored.

              Ok, fair enough - thanks.

Any volunteers to be spam deleters?

              Please email support@wetset.net

This board didn't make use of logins when I first started and it was a fairly busy place. There was spam but there was also a LOT more going on in terms of very decent posts to brilliant media.

Are you disputing the fact that this board is no longer worth visiting more than a couple of times a week?

As for you asking for spam moderators, I'd be very happy to help but there's no point at the moment as the signup procedure is blatantly putting many posters off...

We are not in the 90's anymore when people actually were civil to each other.

There also was little or no spam. And the means to proliferate thousands of spam posts at once weren't known or exploited yet. Would you rather type a captcha every time you make a post or just simply login in with a password and fake name from an email account with a fake name that you can close after the verification?

As for moderators... WetSet has tried that a few times using members and it caused more flame wars than it was worth, and once popular regulars who tried it were run off. Now, even when employees of WetSet themselves do it, there is always an argument or somebody whining. Just like the topic of this post.

I have been here from the very beginning through the incarnations. I don't have the extra Jack in my pocket to pay for much. So I appreciate the fact that WetSet is still offering one of the few FREE message board catering to our fetishes. If they need to change things around a bit, I deal with it. If I am not paying for it, who am I to bitch about it?

Besides, everyone bitching about it are already members and you won't be affected by it to begin with.

If I may add a few more suggestions that would help to regulate spam without inconveniencing people. These are all things I have seen used quite effectively to control spam and ruckus on other boards.

#1: Make it so you cannot start a thread with your first post. You have to reply to a thread that already exists, then you can create threads starting with your second post.

#2: Limit the number of topics a user can start per day. I think a 5 topic per day limit would be more than generous enough for everyone here.

#3: Allow users to flag posts by other users. If a post is flagged by 10 separate people the poster is prevented from posting for 24 hours. Suffice to say if you've done something to piss off ten regulars you probably need a time out.

You're right - the board used to be more lively in the old days. Once upon a time people were friendly and imaginative - back in the days when the internet was new and exciting. Things have changed!

Blaming the change on us requiring a login is wrong - it changed anyway. If the forum was open house, then it would be a total mess - within a few days it would be impossible to recover. So it wouldn't matter if there were more good posts, because you wouldn't be able to find them amongst the wreckage!

I resisted moving to a login style board for years and years - way longer than just about every other forum on the internet. And the forum took up about half my time - deleting and blocking spam and intervening in flame wars etc. I just couldn't do it anymore!

I fully agree this is all very sad, and I would love it to be the way you remember. I can remember that too, but dispensing with logins is not going to bring it back.

Well said. I couldn't have described the situation better myself. The internet is a different place now - it's like the civil dinner party, full of lively conversation, has been gate crashed by an army of drunken imbeciles, smashing the crockery and throwing up in the swimming pool!

Or another image that comes to mind is a zombie movie, where the few remaining survivors are holding out in a house with thousands upon thousands of crazed zombies circling around and smashing through the door! But they manage to escape to an old army camp somewhere hidden in the forest, surrounded by barbed wire with a big locked gate.

                        Should they open it???

As long as there are webmasters with a sense of humour, there's hope for humanity yet. The internet has become rather mad, but hey, so have humans, we just have to laugh and smile and keep on keeping on...

That is bullshit. This board suck and no one wants to go on here anymore because it has gotten ridiculous and the people that run it are hard headed.I think I will make my own board so people can do and post what they want without the "Hitler attitude". I will give everyone the address in a few days.
