  • Pee Scene in New Movie

There is a film called "The Paperboy" which is causing a lot of stir at Cannes. It contains a fairly graphic scene in which Nicole Kidman urinates in Zack Efron's face.

Hopefully the film will go into full release in the theaters, though some distributors are afraid to handle it because it's just trashy through and through. Despite all that, the movie will probably go into public release because it is said that Kidman is virtually guaranteed (yet another) Oscar nomination for her portrayal of a demented white-trash bimbo.

Fake? Of course. But still might be the most graphic pee scene in mainstream films since Kate Winslet cut loose in "Holy Smoke."

Hope all you guys get to see it. I mean, Kidman???

Various other sources on the internet say the scene is real- only the participants know for sure.

Yeah, Vic, I read the same thing....

They're claiming it was real, not a fake like Winslet's bladder harness in "Holy Smoke." Most sources say Nicole actually did the deed.

Zac Efron sounds like he's fucking ecstatic but admits he has always been in love with Kidman and wouldn't care what she did to him.

If it's real, congratulations to a such a highly respected actress of great intelligence and stature for daring to "cross the line" in a major way and urinate in someone's face. I wonder if all the entertainment rags will still refer to her as "elegant" and "high-class" after this one.

      But good on her.

She peed on him to neutralize a jellyfish sting. Now it's been called trashy by a number of european reviewers, but that's how it works in real life.

Hey, Delta Foxtrot, I also thought that was interesting. A jellyfish sting. That's not what I would describe as a sexual context, but all the world's film critiques are describing it as a really grotty sex scene. So I guess they perceive urination as sexual even when it is in a different context?

Hmmmmm.... Maybe that's a good thing.

We probably will get to see it. Some distributors who have a big market in the Southern "Bible Belt" of the US don't want to touch this thing with a ten foot pole, but the liberal distributors all want it because they say this is the movie where Kidman will probably catch up with Streep, two best actress awards, only time in history.

Personally, I think it's COOL that all these M.A. film critics think it's sexual even though it's about a freaking jellyfish. Our time will come.

I'd be willing to bet ANYTHING that if the only aspect this scene was where one character was providing the other character with some urine for use as a home remedy for a jellyfish sting, it would involve using a container and stepping to another room, rather than "straight from the fountain"!!
            Anyone disagree?
My humble 2 cents worth- Vic

As I recall in US movie "The Heartbreak Kid" that came out a few years ago a jellyfish sting led to the famous pee cure. It was administered on the spot through the actress's bikini.

Since the movie is a comedy and a poorly rated one at that, this scene didn't seem to generate much commentary on the old board, but I watched it a couple of times trying to detrmine if it was real.

Hey- I have to say this about the famous "pee on jellyfish sting" cure. How would such a cure be discovered? Sort of like- "Who was the first person to eat an oyster?- A starving blind man?"
Or in the classic "Calvin & Hobbes" comic strip about milk- "Hmm- See that big mammal over there? See those things dangling underneath? I'm gonna go SQUEEZE them, if anything comes out, I'LL DRINK IT!"
Let's not even go to the psychadelic "lick a toad" thing...
                Later!- Vic

Not real sadly, but she was game for it...

Ok I just saw this film tonight and while it's a fairly tame scene it does appear to be real and not faked. Trouble is the way it's shot there's really no way to know if it was Nicole Kidman doing the actual peeing or not. It's far too brief as well (for 'us' folks of course :-) ). Brief description she hovers over him and lets loose a slow but steady stream, it doesn't gush out unrealistically, kinda trickles out from under he swim suit and runs down her leg then onto his chest. After that it cuts to closeups of his face, her face, and then an (intentionally) blurry shot of just the stream. Not A+ material per se but definitely cool to see in a mainstream film.

I wonder if some countries will have a more explicit edit of the pee scene at a later date.

I work in television production (hence my screen name) and have helped out on a few film shoots. It is hard for me to imagine a mainstream production doing such a scene for real.

Here is why- Every scene, every take, every angle is shot multiple times. Even if it seems perfect the first time, it is always going to be done again for insurance. Film can have errors, digital formats can glitch, a car can go by unnoticed in the the background. Not even a first year film student would only shoot something once and rely on that. It is foolish.

Additionally even if the scene is perfectly story boarded, the production crew is still going to shoot different angles for coverage. This way the director isn't totally locked in when editing.

I don't see how an actress could pee so many times on demand one time after the other. The time waiting for her bladder to fill up would make the scene very cost prohibitive.

After working with many talented actresses, I do believe many of them would happily pee for real on camera if that is what the scene called for. Professional actresses take great pride in inhabiting a character and bringing that character to life. If that character has to pee, most actresses I don't think would have a problem with that.

I can also imagine that in one or two takes the actress will pee for real, but many more takes and angles will still have to be done. Even the actress and the producer won't know which shots make the final film- if it is the take where it is done for real or faked. Only the director and and the editor (usually the two people in the edit room) will be aware of this.

Also according to interviews with Kidman and the director the pee was real.

I work in tv as well, (probably should have mentioned that when saying I studied the scene closely). It could very well have been all real all staged or some combo of both. As for multiple angles the way it was cut together there could have easily been an A, B, C...etc camera all running simultaneously. And again the pee shown coming FROM her/her suit was very brief, so that shot could have been real. The rest was just shot of his face her face, his chest and the extreme closeup of the stream could easily have been staged.
