"Smashed"

The movie "Smashed" is currently showing on cable where I live. It's a decent flick, and I'm surprised that it never elicited comments to this board.

I find the leading lady, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, very sensual.

The film starts with a couple just awakening in their sunlight bedroom. The bed is soaked. She says "Oh not again." He says something about being peed on.

Later, she is shopping for wine and has to pee. The bathroom is locked, so her urge takes over. Use your imagination as to how the scene evolves.

As the action moves on, she makes a couple of other direct references to how she frequently wet the bed and her pants.

I have seen it. She pees in her pants because she's an alcoholic. To me that's not very sexy, though I admit there was a time in my life when I was a heavy drinker (not anymore, though) and often wet my pants, even in public. I had a boyfriend who thought it was really hot.

Interesting comments, Maria. I've never gotten even a remote buzz from a passed out drunk with wet pants, but when a beguiling young woman who may be tipsy passes by with evidence of a wetting, I'm certainly am going to look twice.

Of course the film isn't about Kate wetting her the bed or her pants, but this forms a fairly continuous sub-plot in the story. You'd have to wonder about what the writer and director had in mind by making it such a big deal.

She didn't how overt eroticism with her wettings, but her husband didn't object strenuously to the bedwetting, so he may have been aroused by it.

Excuse my Freudian orientation--but his theories were still taught while I was in college. In the liquor store, she was fully conscious and peed her pants for convenience. We might say her weakened super-ego let her do it. And she dressed in a manner that would allow her id to take over whenever she wanted to pee and not show the world that she'd broken the taboo.

Her comments in polite society suggest that she was embarrassed about her inebriated incontinence, but due to the implied frequency it's remotely possible that she got some hidden pleasure during or after the act or by teasing her husband afterwards.

There is not much to see in this movie. There is a scene of the wet bed at the beginning of the movie and then when she is in the store to get some alcohol and is so desperate that she squats as she wets herself. The only wetness that you actually see is a puddle on the floor coming from under her skirt as she is squatting. Here is a pic from that scene in the movie:

Thanks for the cap, Patches. Looking at it, I get the impression that Ms. Winstead is actually wetting her panties or at least peeing on the floor. I'm sure others will chime in, but her pose looks very authentic to me and would be tough to feign.

I am not sure if the wetting scene is real or not. This would be a fairly easy stunt to pull off with some props. Also, you only see her in this squatting position for a moment since they cut to this position of her squatting after showing a close up of her face as she announces to the store clerk that she has to pee and is peeing. The dialogue in this scene and the look on her face as she realizes she is about to wet herself is priceless (or at least of more value than the part where they show her squatting with a puddle at her feet). In fact, the puddle is already there when the camera cuts to the squatting portion of the scene so it would have been easy to fake.

Personally, I tend to doubt that Mary Elizabeth Winstead really wet herself as part of this scene. She does not even do topless scenes in this movie or any other movie she has been in. She does not do any nude scenes even though you can find fake nude pics of her on the Net. She is definitely not a prude given the racy dialogue in this movie and other movies she has been in but since she refrains for any nudity, I doubt she would wet herself on camera.

However, you are free to believe that she actually wet herself in this scene because there is no proof that it is not real. The scene is certainly well acted to make you believe it is real.

Only the production crew and actors know what really happened. It scene was, as you noted, very short. I'm not claiming it's real, just that it gave that impression, which, after all is the nature of good acting.
