Are we going to once and forever dispel with the myth that the URL redirection here isn't the primary reason you see videos deleted? There are videos that have been linked directly from here that have been up for years.

Videos get taken down because youtube is extremely good at working out what a video is about, from the content of the video itself and the viewing habits of the people who watch them amongst countless other things.

Next time you watch a video on youtube about anything, look down the right column, it will be filled with a mixture of videos that either (a) are related to the video you're watching now and (b) videos that youtube thinks you will enjoy based on your browsing habits and (c) a smattering of wildcards and 'trending' videos mixed in. And most of the recommendations will be bang on the money.

This goes for content that breaks their ToS just as much as it goes for others. If they can find videos that are related to an obscure Japanese paper crafting video with 10 views on it, they can also find most (presumably not all) of the ones that contain people peeing in their pants, whether anybody links directly to it or not.

Anybody who thinks that when somebody clicks through a video from Wetset (because the referer [sic] exists, yes), that a big red light flashes on the wall of Youtube HQ and an army of content cops rush to delete it doesn't understand just how sophisticated their content sorting and classification algorithms are.

TL;DR: It's machine learning and fancy shit not referer headers that get videos taken down. Obscuring URLs is stupid and annoying.

This is correct. But if you're concerned about the referer anyway, there's a much simpler and less annoying way to obscure it. Just post the part of it after the slash (ie. /watch?v=fXfe3qwOzzo) and tell us that it's on youtube. We can copy that part of the URL, type youtube.com into our browser , and paste it in at the end. It's much easier than trying to edit out a bunch of xxxs, or delete a space, or change hppt to http or something like that.

          Just a suggestion.

No, it's machine learning INCLUDING referer headers. Avoiding them reduces the chances of them being taken down slightly and increases the time until detection if the other factors are not obvious, leaving more time to download.

Trying to help others if you can isn't 'stupid', it's part of being a considerate human being.

As some people seem unable or unwilling to click a link then over-write some xxx (which I personally find quicker than typing youtube.com), let's give AT's suggestion a go. There won't be a link so they get annoyed when it doesn't work, they'll have to do some typing.
