Thanks Wet Trousers for providing this test. I checked what sites were accessed in the process of downloading from Zippyshare and found 8 sites that were accessed that were not connected with the download. I wasn't able to copy and paste the names of the sites here and I didn't want to take the time to type them all.

Assuming these 8 sites are all connected with supplying ads and not trying to install malware, Zippyshare is not any worse than Sendspace used to be. Also, it appears that Zippyshare is a Canadian based company but that is not certain since they are using a Canadian based company to maintain their contact privacy info. The Zippyshare owners could be located anywhere.

Looking at their "Digital Millennium Copyright Act Notice and Takedown Procedure" again, they do make it somewhat difficult for copyright owners to get their copyright material removed. However, anyone determined to have their material taken down can do so. I suspect most copyright owners won't make the effort since anything uploaded disappears after it is not accessed for 30 days. It is not like sites which post copyrighted material forever.
